The Somali Forum organized Eid celebration to bring the Somali community together to jointly celebrate Eid to mark the end month Ramadan & promote peace, unity & integration. Over 200 people participated including young people, children, men and older people. The celebration took place at our new location 105-107 overstone Rd Northampton NN1 3JW. Mr Abdi Farah, the elders/advisory group leader contributed a lot to promote community cohesion in the Somali community and advice and support the work of the Somali Forum and continue to keep the doors open for all Somali elders to join the elder’s advisory group working with the Somali Forum.

The executive management committee of the Somali Forum meets 2 hours Quarterly and 1 hour for the public and agencies to meet the executive committee to discuss how the services to the wider Somali community is being met and what can be improved for them.
The last executive committee meeting was on the 3rd of august 2009 and anyone from the Somali community can participate in our next meeting as we encourage the people to be part of the decision making process and be inclusive.
Somali Women Swimming Session 2009/2010
The Somali women & Girls have been taking advantage of the group leisure card and enjoy the swimming sessions every Tuesdays and other days of the week to keep themselves healthy at the mounts leisure centre Northampton.
The swimming group card allows them to come together and enjoy swimming together and socialise.
Somali Women Sewing Machine Sessions 2009/2010
Somali women Sewing machine classes and drop sessions only takes place at the current premises every Wednesdays between 1pm- 3pm.
Some of the Somali women living in the castle ward areas experienced direct racial harassment regarding wearing the Hijab dress after the 7/7 terrorism incident 2005, However by trying to bring some of the local residents in the castle ward areas, we managed to raise awareness why the women are dressing in as such way and also encouraging the Somali women and neighbours to integrate to build relations in the local community to help breakdown difficult barriers in the future.
General basic help and support to the Somali community 2009/2010
The Somali people receives help and support from Monday to Thursdays at the premises daily between 10.00am to 3.30 pm in terms of advice, information, form filling, telephone calling, interpreting and translations, letter writing and general signposting such as housing, employment, welfare benefits, job centre plus, training and accessing education and health agencies.
